Young Social Pioneers

The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) has adapted the YouthActionNet® Global Fellowship model to provide a customized, culturally relevant leadership development experience for 14 young Australian changemakers, ages 18-29, annually. The Young Social Pioneers fellowship strengthens the project management and communications skills of young Australian chagemakers, while connecting them to peers and experts to create a national network of youth leaders affecting positive change. The combination of learning & mentorship with networks & resources allows these youth to deepen their work and extend their impact.

Bus Stop Films

Bus Stop Films is an inclusive film production company giving people of all abilities the chance to learn and participate in the creation of content within the film industry. Bus Stop Films' work is being used to create awareness for social inclusion, especially within Australian schools through the Best Buddies Leadership Program. Genevieve was working on a documentary film shoot for Down Syndrome NSW she met and was inspired by Gerard Odwyer, a young man with Down Syndrome and a passion for acting. Genevieve saw an opportunity to engage his talents and abilities by crafting her first inclusive film project Be My Brother, which showcased Gerard's acting abilities, and communicated many of the issues faced by young people living with a disability. Be My Brother was screened at Tropfest 2009, the largest film festival in the world, and in grand cinematic tradition Gerard won Best Male actor. Genevieve and Bus Stop Films have continued to focus on creating inclusion within the film industry and have produced two more films and is looking to develop ongoing workshops for people who identify with having a disability to learn about how the film industry works and to provide them with opportunities to create their own material.
