Privacy Policy



1. General.

The International Youth Foundation ("IYF") respects the privacy of every individual who accesses ("YouthActionNet®"). This Privacy Policy outlines the information that IYF may collect through or in connection with YouthActionNet® and how IYF may use that information. To make this notice easy to find, YouthActionNet® provides a link on the YouthActionNet® homepage and at any point where personally identifiable information may be requested.

2. Visitors and Members. 

All content in YouthActionNet® is accessible to the general public, except for the sections that are reserved for individuals that register as members of YouthActionNet® ("Members").  All individuals who visit YouthActionNet® but are not registered as members shall be hereinafter referred to as "Visitors."  Individuals who register as members shall be hereinafter referred to as "Members."

3. Personally-Identifiable Contact Information from Visitors. 

IYF will not collect any personally-identifiable contact information, including but not limited to, the name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address ("Personally-Identifiable Contact Information") of a Visitor unless he or she voluntarily discloses such Personally-Identifiable Contact Information to IYF.  Visitors who have disclosed Personally-Identifiable Contact Information to IYF but subsequently desire that IYF remove it from its records, or would like to have such information corrected or updated, should contact IYF at +1 410 951-1500, in which case IYF will use reasonable efforts to delete such Personally-Identifiable Contact Information from its existing files or to revise it, as requested. IYF uses return email addresses to answer email that it receives. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties. IYF does not use or share any Personally-Identifiable Contact Information disclosed by Visitors except to reply to email and/or under the circumstances described in Compliance with Legal Process below.

4. Personally-Identifiable Contact Information from Members. 

In order to become a Member, an individual must (1) Be 18 years or older (2) complete an online registration form, which requires the submission of certain Personally-Identifiable Contact Information, including but not limited to, demographic information (e.g., name, email address, zip code, age (only if over age 17), etc.) and preference information (username, password, etc.), that IYF uses to contact the Member about services on YouthActionNet®, and (3) agree to the Terms and Conditions of Service. Membership is free of charge. All of the registration information a Member provides will be stored by IYF, and some or all of that information will be stored by IYF in an individualized Member profile or in a secure database. To learn about the benefits and conditions of Membership, the information stored in the Member profile, and IYF's use and protection of Members' personal information, please read the Terms and Conditions of Service.  Any information that a Member chooses to enter in his or her Member profile may be visible to other users of the Member sites and services. IYF collects and uses each Member's information to enhance the Member's experience on YouthActionNet® and the YouthActionNet® Members' Sections, and in order to operate and deliver the customized services that the Member wishes to use in the YouthActionNet® Members' Sections.  IYF also employs cookies (i.e., small pieces of information that are stored by a user's computer browser on the hard drive) to determine the extent to which an individual has access privileges on YAN, to track site usage, and to enhance its Members' online experience by speeding up navigation, recalling information such as login game, and enabling custom tailored content. Members who do not accept cookies from the domain "" may not be able to access certain parts of the Member sections of YouthActionNet®. 

5. Compliance with Legal Process. 

Please note that IYF may disclose Personally-Identifiable Contact Information if it is required to do so by law or it in good faith believes that such action is necessary to (1) comply with the law or with the legal process; (2) protect and defend IYF's rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of YouthActionNet®; or (4) protect the personal safety or property of the users of YouthActionNet® or the public (including, but not limited to, circumstances in which an individual provides false information or attempts to pose as someone else, and such information may be disclosed a part of an investigation into the individual's actions). If IYF is compelled by law, court order, or other judicial or legal process to disclose any of a Visitor's or Member's personal information to a court or third party, IYF may undertake reasonable efforts to give that Visitor or Member prior notice using the contact information it has provided. However, such notice is not guaranteed.

6. Children.

YouthActionNet® is targeted to users who are above the age of 13, and only those users who are over the age of 18 are eligible to become Members and submit any information to the YouthActionNet® site; therefore, YouthActionNet® has no intention of collecting any Personally-Identifiable Contact Information from children under the age of 18. IYF asks children under 18 years old not to voluntarily provide any information about themselves (including without limitation name, address, or email address) to IYF via YouthActionNet®. If a child under age 18 has provided Personally-Identifiable Information to IYF without the consent or approval of a parent or guardian, the parent or guardian should contact IYF at +1 410 951-1500 if seeking to have such information deleted from existing records. Upon such a request, IYF will use reasonable efforts to delete the child's information from its existing records.

7. Non-Personally-Identifiable Contact Information Collected Automatically.

In some cases, YouthActionNet® may also collect information about a Visitor or a Member that is not personally-identifiable. Examples of such information include the user's IP address, the type of Internet Browser, the type of computer operating system, the location of the user's computer on the Internet, the domain name of the website from which the user linked to YouthActionNet®, and the pages within YouthActionNet® that each user visits. This information is used for various purposes including internal review and traffic audits. 

8. Use of Aggregated Information.

IYF reserves the right to collect, to use, and to disclose to third parties information about general access to and usage of YouthActionNet® and any related services, including information gathered during use of YouthActionNet®. Any information disclosed will be in the form of aggregate data (such as overall patterns or demographic reports) that does not describe or identify any individual user. IYF may also perform statistical analyses of user behavior in order to measure interest in the various areas of YouthActionNet® (for product development) purposes. IYF will not release Personally-Identifiable Contact Information to third parties, except under the circumstances described above in compliance with the legal process or otherwise with the permission of the Member, Visitor, or other individual user whose Personally Identifiable Contact Information may be released.

9. Use of Personal Contributions.

IYF reserves the right to use the name, likeness, voice, audio/video recording, and/or writing ("Personal Contributions") of any Member or any Visitor who publishes Personal Contributions at YouthActionNet®, voluntarily submits Personal Contributions to IYF, or consents to IYF's acquiring and/or preserving his or her Personal Contributions, in any way that IYF believes is proper, in any place throughout the world, for any purpose, including but not limited to, copying, displaying, sending, or giving Personal Contributions to anyone else in the world, owning the copyright in and to the Personal Contributions (except for an individual's name), and using the Personal Contributions in any form of media that now exists or may exist in the future, without ever having to compensate a Member or Visitor, so long as IYF determines that doing so supports or benefits the purposes of IYF.  IYF's rights to Personal Contributions encompass any photo, film, or image that IYF has taken of a Member or a voluntarily submitting or consenting Visitor, any recording that IYF has made of a Member or a voluntarily submitting or consenting Visitor, and any information disclosed to IYF in the course of an interview for IYF publications, applying for Membership in YouthActionNet® or participation in IYF programs, or in the course of participating in an IYF program.

10. Data Security.

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, IYF has put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect the information it collects online.

11. No Liability for Acts of Third Parties.

Although IYF will use reasonable efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of any personally identifiable information that a Visitor voluntarily discloses or a Member provides, transmissions made by means of the Internet cannot be made absolutely secure. IYF will have no liability for disclosure of any such information due to errors in transmission or unauthorized acts of third parties.

IYF reserves the right to change or update this Privacy Policy, or any other policy or practice regarding YouthActionNet®, at any time with reasonable notice to users of YouthActionNet®, such as posting the information on the site. Any changes or updates will be effective immediately upon posting to YouthActionNet® (unless expressly stated otherwise in the relevant policy), change, or update) and/or changing the date of the Policy.
